Andfjord Salmon secures sludge collection and processing

22 October 2024

Andfjord Salmon has recently signed two agreements to secure sludge collection and processing for its current construction phase at Kvalnes. The Trøndelag-based company Meox will deliver ROVs, while the experienced water treatment company Sterner will deliver processing systems.

"Finding the right suppliers, who can solve our sludge treatment needs safely and well and who also share our ambitions for continuous improvement and development, has been an extensive process. Both Meox and Sterner have a good track record of delivering on goals, while at the same time working in a focused manner to improve results," says Christian Halmøy Torgersen, COO of Andfjord Salmon

Four new pools

Meox has previously delivered ROVs to Andfjord Salmon's first pool, which provided a good basis for the next development phase. The new delivery includes ROVs for cleaning the floors and walls of the new pools that Andfjord Salmon is well underway in constructing. The ROVs will be self-propelled and are a newer version of the units that were used at the first pool. Andfjord Salmon is building four new pools in its current construction phase.

"We are proud to once again be chosen as a supplier by Andfjord Salmon. Our work with the company is characterised by a good and close collaboration where we work together towards common goals that require the development of innovative technology solutions. We share the ambition of improving efficiency in purification and environmentally friendly solutions and are proud to be able to contribute to sustainable growth in the aquaculture industry," says Kristian Hjertvik, CEO of Meox.

Leading suppliers

Sterner is one of the country's leading suppliers of water treatment systems for the aquaculture industry and will be delivering a solution for dewatering sludge at Kvalnes. The technology has been adapted to fit Andfjord Salmon's production system and will secure important nutrients that will allow further circular use of the sludge.

"We see Andfjord Salmon's production system as an exciting and innovative technology that harmonizes well with our own solutions for sludge treatment. We share Andfjord's strong focus on ensuring sustainability in the aquaculture industry and are proud to have entered into an agreement that will contribute to environmentally friendly growth. We at Sterner look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration, where we can together develop the solutions of the future for the aquaculture industry." says Robert Eliassen, Head of sludge treatment and biogas at Sterner.

The new agreements are part of Andfjord Salmon's long-term work on sludge management, the goal of which is to develop new solutions for the aquaculture industry of the future. As part of this initiative, Andfjord is also active in two major R&D projects that focus on resource recovery and biogas potential.
