Andfjord Salmon is a partner in BLÅNE, a project which was today granted up to NOK 55 million from Green Platform (an initiative of the Research Council of Norway, Siva, and Innovation Norway). Through the project, we will develop the circular value chain of the future for sludge.
Through BLÅNE, Andfjord Salmon will test smouldering technology, which can solve the technological and logistical challenges of today's sludge management. Smouldering is a self-propelled combustion process whereby fish sludge is oxidized at a low temperature. The end product is a mineral-rich ash where the phosphorus is recycled, enabling a more circular value chain for phosphorus, which is currently a critical and limited resource.
CEO Martin Rasmussen is very pleased that the project has received funding:
"The financing of BLÅNE is an important milestone for Andfjord Salmon. BLÅNE meets the core requirements of our strategy on sustainable sludge management: low energy consumption and sustainable, circular utilisation of the sludge. The project includes partners in the country's best professional environments, with whom we look forward to working in the years to come to achieve the goal of circular utilisation of sludge from the aquaculture industry," says Rasmussen.
